Day 19

27/2/2015

12:00pm – Sachin continued working on the boxes. He was a bit tired when he first started so he took a while before he got into it. I had him continue to build on the previously made boxes. This task was to improve his skills in alignment and to deal with the movement of previous layers while putting on new ones.

1:40pm – Toilet and tea break.

2:00pm – Sachin used a marker to colour the paddle pop sticks..

3:00pm – Lunch break

3:30pm –Sachin continued with extending the boxes.

4:30pm –End of the day.

Day 18

12:50pm – Sachin continued making boxes. He worked at a very leisurely pace. i.e He put one layer of squares and then relaxed for few minutes, then he would continue working. Sometimes he would put more than one layer and then relax. He was in a mood to day dream, but he still understood that it was his work time and so he did not get up from his seat.

1:50pm – Toilet break.

2:10pm –Sachin continued on with the puzzle from yesterday.

3:00pm – Lunch break

3:30pm –Sachin continued working on the puzzle from Wednesday.

4:30pm –Sachin used a marker to colour the paddle pop sticks.

5:20pm - End of the day.

Feedback

It’s very important be flexible to suit Sachin’s different moods. Even as his father, I only have a fair idea dealing with his various moods. This daily reporting would provide a useful record of his varying moods and possibly the appropriate responses.

Day 17

12:50pm –Sachin started today with making squares. He only made 2 in about 25 minutes. He was not in a mood to work today. I urged him to continue working with little response.

1:30pm – toilet and tea break.

1:50pm – I gave Sachin a 750 pieces puzzle. He started with it without needing encouragement. I helped him sort out the edges in order to make some room on the table. He was really into it. After a while I brought him cup tea and he continued working. Note for the future: We need to be flexible on days when he is not in a working mood. Further, I think I will increase him recreational period for the time being and then gradually extend his working time.

3:45pm – lunch break

4:20pm –I had Sachin make some squares. Now He was more in a working mode.

4:50pm – Ipad session – Doing puzzles.

5:30pm – end of day.

5:30pm – End of the day.

Feedback

Last night he was in a hysterical mood and slept around 4 am. This may be the reason for his changed attitude.

I need to find puzzles, or something similar in concept, that will help in his alignment technique.

11:50pm –Last night I gave Sachin a box (square prism) that he had made earlier- just to see his reaction. He looked at it for a while, maybe admiring his work.
Today Sachin started using the triangles (made earlier) to form  prisms. He was taking much longer to join each piece. He was very selective in choosing the next triangle to put on the stack. It seemed like he was now paying more attention to the quality of his work, I hope.

1:30pm –Break

1:45pm –Sachin put the base on the prisms.

3:00pm – Lunch break

3:30pm – Recreational Activity – Used the iPad to do puzzles. He really enjoys doing them.

4:30pm – End of the day.

6:00pm –

11:30pm –Sachin worked on joining previously made triangles to form a prism. He did not require much assistance but once the prism was high enough, I helped him improve the alignment and got him started on another.

1:00pm –break

1:20pm –Sachin worked on forming a base for the previously made cubes. He glued paddle pop stick on the bottom square to form its floor. Instead of putting glue on the new pieces to form the base(like I showed him), I used his own method of applying glue on the base first and putting the new sticks on it. He showed me how to do it better.

3:00pm – lunch break

3:30pm – Recreational Activity – Sachin worked on real jigsaw puzzle (100 pieces). He finished the first one then packed it up and then excited moved around a bit. Then on his own, he started another puzzle.

5:00pm – end of day.

6:00pm –

Feedback

He seemed eager to work today. Once again, I think the break on Wednesdays may be the reason.

1:00pm –Sachin worked on joining previously made triangles to form a pyramid. I showed him the first example and he had no problems doing the rest. He was enjoying this. He still worked at his own pace. I moved away from the area, but peeked through the window, just see if he continued on his own.
He continued with it, but taking his mini breaks in between. That was just a test to see if he only worked while I was watching. Obviously he would still need someone around int the future in order to keep an eye on his seizures.

3:00pm – Tea break

3:30pm –I had Sachin screw handles on a piece of timber with pre-drilled holes. He took his time as he doesn’t apply much force when screwing in the screws. He was deeply engaged while doing this.

4:30pm – Ipad session – Doing puzzles.

5:00pm – End of the day.

6:00pm – No exercise for the time being.

12:30pm –Sachin made some repairs to the boxes that he made on Friday. I showed him where needed to reapply the glue, then he continued making another box.  After that I tried to show him the parts that were not aligned properly in the first box. He wasn’t too interested.

2:00pm – Toilet break

2:20pm –I took Sachin to Bunnings warehouse (Marsden park) today. I wanted this to be like an excursion for him. We went through the various isles and I hoped that something would catch his eye. We spent a fair amount of time in the crafts section. He did pick a bag of paddle pop sticks on his own.  I picked up some boxes (like the ones we were targeting that he could make himself one day) for him to have a good look at but he wasn't too interested,

3:50pm – Tea break.

4:20pm – Ipad session –He did some more puzzles on the app today.

5:20pm –End of the day.

6:00pm – No exercise today as he had a reasonable workout at Bunnings.

Feedback

He had another blackout this evening- perhaps walking in the heat at Bunnings was too much for him.

Day 11

12:00pm –Sachin worked on making squares again. He did not seem to be concerned about alignment, but was more particular about the neatness of the glue. He was not very interested for the first 30 minutes or so, but picked up the pace later on. I tried to get him to work on the alignment but without success.

1:20pm – Toilet break  - he showed some signs that he wanted to go to the toilet – rubbing around his genitals.

1:40pm – I showed him an example of gluing squares on top of each other. He found this task relatively easy. I had him glue 6 to 7 pieces together and then start on the next lot. He seemed to enjoy this task more than the others.

2:50pm – Tea break.

3:20pm – Recreational: Sachin started doing a 100 piece puzzle.  Once he completed the puzzle, he undid the puzzle and put it in its box. He then used the ipad to do more puzzles.

5:00pm – End of the day.

6:00pm – 15 mins walking in our backyard.

Day 10

12:00pm –Sachin seemed eager to work today. He was in a very happy mood. He was even pushing me (by making noise) to take the completed squares and put away for drying. He slowed down after about an hour and hardly made anymore. He mostly looked at me and made noises while smiling. He explored the container that we have for storing the materials. He stared at the packets, etc.
He made 16 in the first 60mins and only 1 more in the next 30 minutes.

1:30pm – Toilet break

1:45pm –We went through all the stuff he has made till today. I tried to tell him which ones were better by first saying “yeah” when we came across a good one. Then we started sorting the better ones from the rest. I let him inspect the differences in quality. I hope that is what he was doing. He often looked at me and made noises implying he was happy.

2:40pm – Tea break.

3:10pm – Ipad session – Experimented with new apps but eventually went back to the puzzles. I think we should alternate the ipad session with some other recreational activity. We will start the painting session in time but need some variety for now.

4:30pm – End of the day.

6:00pm – 15 mins walking in our backyard.
