Day 37

31/3/2015

Today I gave Sachin some paddle pop sticks and glue in a dish. I just told him to “Banao”(make) and did not give him any other directions. After a short while he started making squares on top of each other (as he had done previously). I was glad to see that he remembered the task from earlier. He continued for an hour or so, at his own pace. When he got up from his seat, I gave him a break.

Since it was raining, I decided to do some exercise in the house where we basically did laps inside the house. I was definitely more tired than he was.

Later when we continued, he did not seem interested in making anymore squares, so I let him continue with his puzzle.

Feedback

When I gave Sachin the paddle pop sticks today, I hoped that he would discover some new design. Yet, I was still glad that he remembered the design he learnt previously.

We started today with some photography. Sachin was not interested at all. Perhaps it was just his mood or maybe he is not interested in photography at all. We’ll put that aside for now. I allowed him to relax for some time and he chose to continue with the jigsaw puzzle. After his break, I took him for walk. When we came back, we did some painting. He was not too keen so I had to continually encourage him to continue. Later I allowed him to continue with his puzzle.  I need to rethink about how to use puzzles for his recreation. He seems too eager to do his puzzles and not much of anything else while it’s incomplete.

Sachin woke up much earlier today. After failing in my efforts to get him to sleep again-which often works (cautionary to prevent  seizures), I got him ready for work. First, he continued painting parts of our house.

After a short break, we took some pictures and viewed them on the computer.

We didn’t go for a walk today as I was very worried about Sachin having a seizure. Hence, to avoid stressing him, I let him finish the day by continuing with his puzzle.

Day 34

26/3/2015

Sachin woke up late today. He was a bit hyperactive last night and slept very late.

Today we started taking some pictures with a digital camera. I had to hold the camera with him and guide his finger to click for pictures. He was no too interested in this activity, but this is mostly the case when new things are introduced to him. So we continued to take pictures and then use the camera display to view each one. We did this for a while. Then we downloaded the pictures on the computer and viewed them as a slideshow. He was more attentive when watching the slideshow. I hope he realised that he was partly responsible for this creation.

Afterwards, I took him for a walk around the block. When we returned, we took some more pictures. He was getting a bit more comfortable with the task.

Next, he continued on with his jigsaw puzzle.

Feedback

We will try taking pictures again as it can also be a way for him to express himself.

Day 33

24/3/2015

Sachin carried on painting today. There was still no real improvement in his painting skills. Once it started raining, he continued with puzzle from yesterday.

Day 32

23/3/2015

Today, I let Sachin choose his activity. He had the option to choose from a variety of things laid out on his table. He picked up the 300 piece puzzle. I cleared and setup his table for the activity. He opened the box and got started on the puzzle.
Once again, he was totally engrossed in the activity. He hardly moved from his seat and eventually I took him inside for a break.
After that he was still keen to continue, but I took him for a walk.
When we came back, I let him continue with the puzzle. He preferred this over using the Ipad.
He chose a real activity instead of playing with technology - A special teenager.

Feedback

Sachin had a good day. It's been 9 days since Sachin last seizure.

Day 31

20/3/2015

Today Sachin carried on painting parts of our house. He is still struggling with it and so persistence is required.
Later, I took him for a walk around the block to give him a break and at the same time provide some exercise.
When we returned,  he rested for a while and then we started on a 300 pieces jigsaw puzzle. As expected, he was quite happy with the activity.

Day 30

19/3/2015

Today Sachin cleaned the pieces of timber that were pulled apart earlier. He used a  scraper to clean the dirt of the pieces. Then he used a bit of sand paper to smoothen some rough edges.
He struggled with both tasks as it was his first time doing these tasks.

He also repaired (gluing) a couple of pencil holders that he had made a few weeks ago.

He used the Ipad in the last period.

12:30pm –Sachin painted the pillars in our porch today. He was very distracted by the cars so I had to continually direct his focus onto the task. It was frustrating, but I decided to persist and see his reaction. He reverted to his original way of brushing the paint (short brushing strokes, rather then up and down with longer strokes). He still has a lot of trouble in removing the excess paint off the paint brush after dipping it in paint.

3:00pm – Lunch break.

3:40pm –Sachin continued painting, but he continually needed encouragement.

4:20pm – Sachin worked on his Ipad.

5:00pm –End of the day.

Feedback

Sachin is struggling with painting at this stage. However, I will persist with this task and I hope eventually he will be okay with it.

1:30pm – Sachin continued dismantling the workbench. Today, he was very keen. Now, he uses the hammer claw more properly. He struggles when the nails are around the edges as it doesn’t give him enough room to brace the hammer head when clawing the nails out. He was aware that the workbench was becoming unstable towards the later stages.
gave Sachin short breaks in between.

3:40pm – Lunch break.

4:10pm –Sachin continued and finished dismantling the workbench.

4:50pm –Short break.

5:00pm –Sachin did a bit of painting, but seemed tired so I gave him the ipad instead.

6:00pm –End of the day.
