Day 45

30/4/2015

Today Sachin worked on disassembling a turntable. I gave him a screw driver, pointed to the screws and he just started unscrewing. He didn’t need any further instructions. I gave him time to figure things out whenever he got stuck and only helped if really needed. He was keen and enjoyed his work today.

He used his Ipad to end the day.

Day 44

Sachin woke up later today. I hesitate when it comes to getting him out of bed when he doesn’t want to. Chilly weather obviously may affect his tendencies but I still think it is not worth the risk in forcing him out of bed. So, we may need to adapt his working hours to accommodate this.

Sachin worked on making boxes using paddle pop sticks. I think it’s important to keep in touch with this task as it reinforces his skills set development that at this stage seems most useful. He worked at his own pace. After he had made 8 layers of the box, he picked up the box and spent a while inspecting his work. This was very encouraging as it indicated his interest in his work. Then, he would inspect his work after every layer.

Sachin finished the day doing a 100 piece puzzles. He really enjoys doing puzzles. I think we need to have this as part of his eventual daily routine.

Feedback

I need to research some night activities for those days when Sachin wakes up much later.

Sachin continued to help me to dismantle a garden shed. He learnt that a cordless drill operates when you press the trigger. I held the drill while he pressed the trigger. He enjoyed using the drill even if it was only in a limited manner.

Sachin finished the day using his Ipad.

Day 42

Sachin helped me today to dismantle a garden shed. He was mainly giving me a hand (passing tools to me, carrying parts, etc). He was engaged but didn’t like the heavy lifting. This experience will be useful when we build a new garden shed. He also helped me in doing some digging. It was clear that he disliked the task. Sachin definitely doesn’t like work that is physically demanding.

He also helped me do some cleaning around the house. He loves holding the hose while I sweep and scrub.

Feedback

Outdoors activity. Since it was a nice day, I thought it may be good idea to do something outdoors.

Sachin used paddle pop sticks to make boxes. His alignment and glueing skills are improving. Although, often he doesn’t use enough glue.

He also used his ipad during the day for a change and he likes using it.

Feedback

Sachin had difficulty falling asleep last night and so he slept in till late today, but he was still eager to work. I have a surveillance camera in his bedroom to monitor his sleep- seizures during the night, how often he gets up, and so on.

Sachin started colouring paddle pop sticks using a permanent marker. We worked inside the house due to the weather. Next, Sachin used a stencil to do some writing using a pencil. The purpose for this task is to develop his technique in using a stencil. He did seem to enjoy this task but again he needs to work at his own pace.

He finished the day on the ipad.

Day 39

Today was a very wet, windy and cold day. Sachin started by making paddle pop stick boxes. He was very eager  and seemed happy today. He is now more careful when aligning the pieces to be glued. After a while, we had to move inside as the weather affected his work area.

He had a break and then used the Ipad for a while. Later, I had Sachin draw some rectangles on paper using a ruler. He was okay with it when I held the ruler but he struggled on his own. He had trouble keeping the ruler stationary.

After a break, he continued with the Ipad.

Note: We need to account for the various weather conditions for setting up Sachin’s future work area.

Feedback

The holidays must have made Sachin eager to work. I think he missed having his routine which is an encouraging sign.

Day 38

Today Sachin made paddle pop stick boxes. He was very much on task today and did not require much encouragement or assistance to continue. After a break, we went for a walk. Then we did some painting. He is still struggling to use the brush properly but he is improving in terms applying better paint coverage.

After another break, we continued painting. We finished the day with another walk.
