Day 88

1 to 5:30pm
Today, Sachin opened his 6v cordless drill. He was fascinated with it, especially the packaging. I showed him how to insert the (Phillips) bit into the chuck. For a while, he explored the inserting and ejecting various bits and also noting the different types bits in the set (hopefully). Then I showed him how to put the drill on the charger. After that I showed him how use the switch for the various operations (clockwise, anti-clockwise and off ). Then I gave him an old desktop computer and got him to unscrew all the bolts.

I aligned the bit head on the screw and then got Sachin to press on the trigger. When I let him do it on his own, he had trouble getting the bit into the groove. With time, I believe that he will understand that it is a just a screwdriver that has power. He does use the screwdriver fairly well. Another problem is that he doesn’t use enough strength to hold the drill. Anyway, we spent the whole day screwing and unscrewing with our usual walk in between.

He does seem happy when using the drill. Perhaps, he just sees it as a new toy.
